Alcoholism within the Polish Community - Causes, Effects and Solutions.
Following a number of approaches from external partners, in 2010 we have carried out a research into alcohol problems amongst the Polish community. We have carried interviews with nearly a hundred Poles, the vast majority of them young men, living in England. The outcome of the research was a leaflet designed to raise alert to the problems of alcoholism within the Polish Community in the U.K, to provide information on the condition and the methods by which dependants can seek help.
The leaflet is available in GP surgeries, police stations, schools and churches. It can also be accessed through the link below:

Elderly, disabled and housebound befriending project.
Following on from our research work in 2005 (see above), in August 2006 we initiated a befriending outreach project for elderly, disabled and housebound people living in London.
Our volunteers support this project by providing weekly visits to elderly East Europeans who have become isolated because of illness, disability or social disadvantage. The befriending project has led to increased self-esteem and self-confidence in our clients. It has reduced the burden on the other services provided by the EEAC, which elderly people used inappropriately, as they simply sought social contact. We are currently looking to expand this project and are in the process of applying for grants. If you would like to find out more about participating in this project please contact, Dana Jozefkowicz on 0044 (0)208 741 1288.

Much has changed since then. We are currently preparing a project that would help address issues of acute end of homelessness, i.e. rough sleeping amongst Polish community in particular. For information on this work please contact Gera Drymer on 0044 (0)208 741 1288.
